The police in Lake State have arrested a young man and paramount chief in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old girl over pregnancy on Friday.
The state deputy police commissioner, Major General Machiek Achol says the incident happened at Adior Payam of Yirol East County.
General Achol says the 17-year-old girl allegedly got pregnant before she eloped to her boyfriend’s house.
The boyfriend in question reported the case to the police and the couple was detained.
However, the girl’s brothers went to the police to bring their sister home, before beating her to death.
“This girl became pregnant by someone she uses to be in love with him, and the man’s family took her to the police station,” he said.
“Later the girl was released after being bailout by the paramount chief. When she returned home, her brother beat her, which caused her death.”
The police official says the paramount chief who helped bail out the teenager has been arrested and is being investigated.
